mermaid summer daydreams

a lovely night in a faraway place
after a splash in a faraway stream
a small splash of light in throwaway cups
a backrub a kiss
and mermaidish things

i am reserved and contained;
but lately my mermaid ways bubble to the surface
-ecstatic, erotic-
splashing, floating, diving again;
my boundaries as wide as the sea itself

jump right in the water's fine!

i resurface, kelpy hair, scales glistening in moon light.
come, sweet merfolk, feel the night air
take in the stars.
let's play on the surface tonight.
tomorrow we will be merely human again.
